Our Aging Building

Posted on:

Recently, sections of the ceiling in the Library Theater loosened and fell. Thankfully, no injuries occurred, but the incident is a clear reminder that our library building is aging and in need of significant care. This is the latest in a number of challenges the building has had this past year, including the closing of the patio in our beautiful courtyard and needing to close the building due to our ancient HVAC system not working properly.

Our library building has served the community for decades, but time and heavy use are taking their toll; many systems are overdue for upgrades.

The library is more than a building; it’s where our community gathers for learning and connection. To keep providing these services, we need to begin thinking about addressing the failing systems as well as what we would like our building to be in order to serve our community in the best possible way moving forward.

The Library Board, the Director, and our Facilities Manager are currently working on a plan to update the building to reflect our current and future needs. We’ll share updates on repairs and progress, and we invite the community to stay engaged in the conversation about sustaining and revitalizing our library moving forward.
