Library advocacy is how communities say, “This place matters—and we’re not willing to lose it.”

Library advocacy matters because libraries don’t run on goodwill alone—they rely on public support. Advocacy helps protect free and equal access to information, defend intellectual freedom, and secure funding for education, technology, and community programs. When budgets get tight, libraries are often among the first services on the chopping block. Speaking up helps remind leaders that libraries are essential community resources, not optional extras.

Last week, four of our staff members traveled to Albany to meet with Assemblymember Chris Burdick and Senator Pete Harckham. They understand that strong libraries make strong communities, and we’re grateful for their continued support and advocacy for libraries.
