Writing Your Obsession: A Poetry Workshop

How do we take an obsession, something that occupies or besieges us, and turn it into poetry? This two-session workshop will explore strategies to help you consider the possibilities and potentials of an obsession so it might become a poem. Through guided prompts, readings of model poems and experimenting with different forms, you’ll discover ways to examine the landscape of an obsession. You’ll find space for reflection, discovery, and the pleasure of seeing your obsession transformed into poetry.

Pamela Hart is writer in residence at the Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah, NY, where she teaches and manages arts-in-education programs in schools and correctional facilities. Her book, Mothers Over Nangarhar, winner of the Kathryn A. Morton prize, was published in 2019 by Sarabande Books. She received a poetry fellowship from the NEA. She is poetry editor for Afghan Voices, the Afghan Women's Writing Project and assistant non-fiction editor for Consequence Forum, a journal on the consequences of war and geopolitical violence. Her poems have been published in online and print journals.
