Board Minutes - August 15, 2007

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE CHAPPAQUA LIBRARY
 August 15, 2007

Board Members Present: Milan Tyler

Brian Socolow

Stan Kurzban

Janet Himel

Evelyn Bloom

Others Present:       Pamela Thornton   Director

Craig Benson    Special Labor Counsel (to 8:55 P. M.)

I. Call to Order

President Milan Tyler called the meeting to order at 8:05 P. M.

II. Executive Session

The Board entered executive session to discuss a personnel matter at 8:06 P.M. and terminated the session at 8:55 P.M.

III. Report

Ms. Thornton reported that the publishers of The Westchester Guardian had placed a blue newspaper box on the Library’s premises near the outside book drop for the purpose of distributing their news publication.  Clinton Smith, the Library’s Attorney, is aware of the matter and he is representing the Town of New Castle on a similar issue with the same organization.  The trustees decided Ms. Thornton will ensure that The Westchester Guardian box does not pose a hazard or obstruct pedestrian traffic and the Library will not take action now to remove the box.  The Board will monitor the other situations in Westchester County regarding The Westchester Guardian boxes.  The trustees reserve the right to revisit our position on this if circumstances change.

IV. Adjournment

Mr. Tyler adjourned the meeting by common consent at 9:07 P. M.

                                          Respectfully submitted,
                                          Janet Himel,  Secretary
